Ainsley, my little peanut you’re all over the place these days. Each day brings us closer to a fully mobile baby. We leave the room and come back to find you in a completely different area. This has increased substantially since Sunday! Yesterday I peeked back in and you had scooted to the entertainment stand and were standing playing with the DVD player. Holy crap! We need to baby proof.
Your movement started with a better acceptance of tummy time about a month ago. Then you began looking like a little seal for a few days, and occasionally a tripod. My little yoga baby. You are strong my girl and can easily lift your bum in the air and support yourself with just your feet and hands. Envision a triangle. For a day or two you were content hanging out in a full right angle. However this quickly turned into backwards scooting about 3 weeks ago. It was like a slithery movement that worked best on the hardwood floors. But within days you learned to adapt it to the rugs/carpeting.
This has now progressed into officially backwards crawling. You are in a full crawl position now, knees tucked beneath you… moving backwards. It’s so adorable. Then Sunday you really started rotating. I think to accommodate for the fact that moving backwards no matter how proficiently, never gets you to what you are seeking… Now with the rotation combined with backwards crawling you are unstoppable. Sunday you even managed to pull yourself up on the rocker foot rest and cruise the ottoman a bit. Before getting stuck and being unsure of how to get down…
Harlowe my girl, we think sister’s mobility is starting to wear off on you too … Suddenly you’re starting to move. For the last 3 weeks you’ve been content sitting but we think watching sister move around is fueling your curiosity, paired with the fact that she can reach things you can’t. You move completely different from sister… which for some reason surprised me. Not sure why because you two are different in almost every way.
You tend to pivot/rotate and your movement seems to be coming very fast. Just yesterday you were facing the opposite direction and about ½ foot to the side when I came back into the room. You are making your way to your tummy but in a completely different way from sister. You simply fold in half (literally) and push forward. Very creative my dear. You’ve discovered that by rotating your legs from the normal sit stance you are more able to pivot, allowing you easier access to more toys. You are much more interested in rolling than sister. So we are starting to wonder if your movement of choice will be rolling. Your core is intensely strong and you are taking a huge interest in standing too.
Movement is upon us and I have no doubt there will be some very tired mamas in the near future.
